The Worship Committee of the UU Congregation in Blacksburg, VA, with advice and
direction from our Interim Minister, Alex Richardson, is hoping to hire a minister for the summer of 2012. We would like to hire a seminary student who would accept a modest stipend and hospitality in
exchange for the opportunity to plan and lead summer worship services
(approximately mid-June to late August, 2012).

The candidate is preferably a Unitarian Universalist ordained minister, or in the process of becoming one. We are a small congregation (also having the status of a Welcoming Congregation as well as being an official Green Sanctuary) looking for someone who is an effective speaker and able to relate to and engage with other religious communities. This person should be willing and able to exercise diplomacy and be welcoming of other faiths. This person should also be willing to promote visibility within the community at large (e.g., Board of Alderman meeting in Black Mountain, Swannanoa Valley Ministerial Association, charitable functions, social assistance organizations, Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Breakfast.) We also want our minister to be dedicated, optimistic, enthusiastic, and have a sense of humor, as well as being easily approachable and have good listening skills.
Strong consideration will be given to applicants who have an interest in longer term service, a strong interest in Religious Education for adults and youth, and will promote intergenerational worship services and programs.
The responsibilities of the minister will be to preach a total of 26 services a year, attend at least 2 Religious Education classes a year, provide pastoral care, attend our Board of Trustees and Worship Associates meetings, lead new membership orientation twice a year, and be available to conduct ceremonies for memorial services, weddings, child dedications and other life celebrations and rites of passage.
The salary package is $25,000 plus FICA, Medicare, and Social Security taxes for a total of $28,165. Ministerial expenses will be $1,250.

Basic Purpose: To build the capacity of Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations and leaders to advocate, witness, and organize effectively for LGBT justice and equity at the local, state, and national levels; to represent appropriately the Unitarian Universalist Association in public witness, championing LGBT justice and equality including prayer vigils, rallies, conferences, and webinars; to work in coalition with interfaith and human rights organizations that advocate for LGBT justice and equality; to support and conduct social media advocacy on behalf of LGBT rights; to support the capacity of UU congregations to welcome, include, and minister to LGBT persons; and, to build the capacity of Unitarian Universalist congregations and leaders to work in multiracial/multicultural coalitions and partnerships for LGBT justice and equality.
